Speaking up for dementia carers ahead of the Autumn Budget

All dementia carers should be able to access free social care

Ahead of next week’s Autumn Budget, we are drawing the attention of MPs to the need to make social care fairer for dementia carers.

Every day we hear from dementia carers who are struggling with the cost of caring. We hear from carers who can’t afford to pay for care, who are cutting back on their spending, who are weighing up selling a family home, who are trying to understand what benefits they may be entitled to. Helen Pyper, Head of Policy and Campaigns, Dementia Carers Count

Our 2024 survey found that 80% of family dementia carers are worried about the financial impact of caring on them and/or the person they are caring for in the future.

We believe that adult social care must be sustainably resourced to enable free delivery of personalised support to family dementia carers.

We are asking MPs to speak up for family dementia carers and to raise the financial challenges they face with the Treasury and the Department of Health and Social Care.

Next week, we’ll be in central London raising more awareness of the costs of being a dementia carer. We will also be joining fellow members of the Care and Support Alliance to demand proper investment in social care.
