 :  News

We know that being a family carer of someone with dementia can be a lonely and isolating experience.

That’s why we’re starting two new dementia carer online support groups so carers can meet, talk and share their experiences and feelings. The groups will take place over Zoom and are facilitated by our experienced specialists. Carers are very welcome to attend and simply listen if this feels more comfortable.

New Groups

Support for carers to help the person with dementia to stay in their own home

Lorraine Haining, our specialist nurse practitioner, will facilitate this session, bringing together carers who would like the person they are caring for to remain in their own home for as long as possible.
It’s an opportunity for carers to share what they’re finding challenging and learn from each other in a supportive space. Lorraine will provide practical advice on topics that are discussed.
The group runs fortnightly for six weeks.

Loneliness Support for Dementia Carers

Dr Gemima Fitzgerald, our clinical psychologist, will facilitate the loneliness support group.
This group is for any family carer who is feeling lonely or isolated, to connect with other carers who are feeling alone. Gemima will support and guide everyone through the session and help carers connect with others for emotional support.
The groups meet on a fortnightly basis. They’re completely free to attend, but you do need to register in advance to receive a link for the meetings.
