Get involved with dementia research

Get involved with dementia research

There are opportunities for carers to take part in research to improve dementia diagnosis, treatment and care.

How can I get involved in dementia research?

Join Dementia Research provides an opportunity to either volunteer to take part in research or to put forward research studies which are aimed at improving dementia diagnosis, treatment and care.

What kind of research projects can I get involved with?

There are research projects taking place across the UK and in specific locations. The types of research range from surveys and focus groups to assessments and medication trials.

All the research projects included as part of Join Dementia Research have been ethically approved.

There are research projects focused on the experiences and needs of carers as well as projects focused on the person living with dementia.

For example, John, who cares for his wife Linda, who has frontotemporal dementia, got involved in a research project to evaluate the benefits of getting online support as a carer.

If you are a resident of the UK, and over 18, you can find out more and register your interest in getting involved with projects.

What happens when I sign up to Join Dementia Research?

When you sign up, the information you share is used to match you to studies that you may be able to take part in. You can have a look at the studies that you have been matched to and decide if you’d like to be involved.

By taking part you can help make a difference to the future of dementia care.

Have a research project you’d like dementia carers to get involved with?

If you have a possible research project, and/or would like to improve recruitment to a study, you can submit an application to Join Dementia Research for your project to be considered for inclusion.
