End The Pad Gap
We’re campaigning for better access to incontinence products
Incontinence can cause embarrassment and stress and it shouldn’t. This is why we’re calling for better access to incontinence products for all who need them.
Over half of people with dementia develop incontinence. This adds hugely to the stress dementia carers already feel.
Many carers tell us coping with incontinence issues was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Access to the right protective products helps carers keep caring for longer, knowing the person they care for is comfortable and living with dignity. Helen Pyper, Head of Policy and Campaigns, Dementia Carers Count
End The Pad Gap
We are campaigning with other organisations including Prostate Cancer UK, The Royal College of Nursing, Bladder and Bowel UK, The Urology Foundation and Essity to call for an end to ‘rationing’ of incontinence products.
We are a co-signatory of an open letter which has been sent to NHS Procurement Leaders highlighting the need to stop limiting people with incontinence to a set number of pads a day.
As a result of this ‘pad gap’ some carers are obliged to purchase additional incontinence products themselves to help keep someone they care for dry.
You can read the open letter that we have signed below.
