Make dementia carers’ voices heard

When we talk about dementia, we should always be talking about dementia carers, the people who are giving everything they can to support someone living with dementia.

It’s not right that nearly three quarters of dementia carers often feel they can no longer continue to care. Caring has become too tough on them. This is not how it should be!

Together, we can make sure no dementia carer is left to struggle alone – not now, and not in the future.

There was nothing, no advice, no support – just nothing. We were just given a diagnosis. There was no follow up and we were left to work things out as best as we could. Dementia carer.

Our 2025 survey shines a light on dementia carers’ experiences and the challenges they face. It’s a vital piece of research which needs to be shared far and wide.

We want decision makers across the UK to understand the daily realities of being a dementia carer.

We believe that dementia carers deserve more and that they should get the support they desperately need.

But we can’t do it without your support. Help raise awareness of our findings and amplify dementia carers’ voices.

Your support can help make sure dementia carers are heard by enabling us to:

  • Create informed policy briefings: our research provides evidence to decision makers about what needs to change and why – making sure that the needs of dementia carers are taken into account when decisions are made about what health and social care support is available
  • Support dementia carers to meet their MP: we’re in regular contact with MPs and other elected officials and we want to make sure decision makers hear directly from dementia carers – the real people behind our statistics who must not be ignored
  • Share our expertise and insights into dementia carers’ needs: our survey data is used by other organisations, researchers and government departments who value the insights we provide into what it means to be a dementia carer
We’re doing everything we can to raise and amplify dementia carers’ voices and experiences. We’re in regular contact with elected politicians and people who are making decisions and recommendations about health and social care funding and resources.

But we need your support to make sure that the needs of dementia carers are fully understood by everyone involved in deciding what care and support will be available in future.
