Tier One Open Course

Tier One Dementia Training

Online Course

In line with Tier One of the National Dementia Training Standards Framework, and CPD accredited.

Training fee: £100 per person

This professional dementia training is for individuals including health and social care staff, domiciliary or self-employed carers, or professional service providers who want to build confidence in their dementia care delivery.

It’s suitable for both frontline staff and administrative team members and helps participants understand how to support people with dementia and their families while at work.

Learning outcomes

Understanding Dementia

Participants will be able to:

  • Have a good understanding what is meant by the term dementia.
  • Be aware of numbers of people who currently have a diagnosis of dementia and the number of people who provide care in the UK.
  • To recognise signs and symptoms of dementia and how these can be related to other conditions.
  • Understand what actions people can take to reduce risk and delay onset of dementia.
  • Understand why early diagnosis is important and how to signpost people to appropriate services.
  • Explore how individuals can live well with dementia.

Person Led Care

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of person-led care and the importance of recognising a person as a unique individual.
  • Be aware of the hidden challenges and the impact of dementia on individuals, families and society.
  • Be aware of the how environmental factors in the persons own home, care homes, hospitals and communities can be introduced to support the person with dementia remain independent for as long as possible.

Meeting the needs of somebody with dementia who is stressed and distressed

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of appropriate and effective communication when engaging with a person with dementia.
  • Understand why changes in behaviour may indicate an unmet need in a person with dementia.
  • Be able to signpost people with dementia, their families and carers to advice, support and relevant information.
