Caring about white lies, half-truths & telling it like it is
This one-day course will explore the topic of truth-telling when you’re helping to care for a friend or family member with dementia.
People who have attended our three-day courses have told us that there are times when they are unsure whether to answer questions openly and honestly, whether this would be too distressing for the person with dementia and whether a response other than the truth would be more appropriate and comforting.
We’ll discuss the situations which people come across, and the various questions of acceptability this raises. We’ll explore when, where and why a ‘lie’ is being told or the ‘truth’ is being avoided and provide the opportunity for discussions.
The course will provide you with the opportunity to understand the reasons the person with dementia may be asking you the questions you find difficult to answer and ways to meet such needs. The ways to manage situations are very individual with specific challenges and may require different approaches, and our experienced healthcare professionals will help you to consider all these factors.
