This is a one-day course that aims to explore the topic of truth telling with the person you care for.
Carers on our 3 day courses have told us that they there are times when they are unsure whether to answer questions openly and honestly, whether this would be too distressful for the person they care for and whether other responses other than the truth would be more appropriate and comforting.
This course will explore the situations which people come across, and the various questions of acceptability this raises. The course will explore when, where and why a ‘lie’ is being told or the ‘truth’ is being avoided and provide the opportunity for discussions. The course provides you with the opportunity to understand the reasons the person with dementia may be asking you the questions you find difficult to answer and ways to meet such needs. The ways to manage situations are very individual with specific challenges and may require different approaches, and our skilled professionals will help you to consider all these factors.
As a charity we do not make a profit. We are fortunate to have had reserves from the sale of the assets of our previous charity (we used to own care homes) to invest in the development and start-up costs of our new services. It costs the charity £125 per carer to deliver our one day courses, including lunch. Therefore, we invite course participants to donate to the charity on completion of the course, if they are able to. All donations, big or small, make such a difference. Donation forms will be provided at our courses. You can also donate using the donate button at the top right corner of this web page.
Please note that our team recommend that you attend all sessions of this one-day course. Every element of the programme has being researched and planned and arriving late or leaving early will affect the benefits of the course for you and other attendees. If you are unable to attend all sessions, our team will work with you to find an alternative date that works better for you.
