Reforming adult social care must take account of the growing prevalence of dementia

Reforming adult social care must take account of the growing prevalence of dementia

Baroness Casey addressed the Nuffield Trust last week, sharing her insights from the ongoing work of the Independent Commission for Adult Social Care and what she believes are the priorities for social care reform.

Each day, we hear from dementia carers about the exhausting battle they face trying to navigate a broken social care system. Too often, they’re left fighting for the support they urgently need. Helen Pyper, Head of Policy and Campaigns, Dementia Carers Count

We were heartened to hear Baroness Casey’s frank assessment of the state of the social care system and welcome her call for urgent action and strengthened national leadership on dementia and increased support for carers.

We welcome the government accepting Baroness Casey’s recommendations for immediate action. The big question now is: will this be the moment that finally triggers meaningful reform?

Carers and families can’t afford for this conversation to fade away. It’s time for action not just recognition.

We will support the Commission’s call for a national conversation and continue to campaign for the reforms dementia carers so desperately need.
