International Women’s Day 2026 – Give To Gain: Leadership, caring and coaching

Happy International Women’s Day

This year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘Give To Gain’ is all about generosity and collaboration.

We often talk about leadership in terms of strategy, performance, and decision-making. Yet none of these matter if leaders cannot support people to do their best.

Even the clearest strategy doesn’t go far without the generosity and collaboration needed to make it happen.

Just as International Women’s Day urges us to ‘Give To Gain’ progress for women and girls, charity leaders can also embrace this approach to support the communities they serve – whether that means supporting our teams, the people we support, or the wider sector. Frances Lawrence, CEO, Dementia Carers Count

Supporting teams to thrive

As a leader, this principle has always guided me. I believe in supporting teams to reach their full potential.

Organisations grow stronger when they build a positive culture that truly focuses on people and what they need to thrive. When the right support is in place, everyone benefits and everyone grows. I’m proud to have helped develop that kind of culture at Dementia Carers Count.

Carers embody ‘Give To Gain’ every day

Carers selflessly support loved ones, often at great cost to their own wellbeing.

My own experience as a dementia carer has shown me how isolating and exhausting the role can be. It’s why I’m so determined that organisations like Dementia Carers Count exist – we give so that carers gain. We ensure they are supported in their challenging roles and able to do the best they can for the people they love.

Giving back to the sector

Through mentoring, I’ve also tried to give back to the sector, helping people develop confidence, skills, and direction.

As I now embark on coaching training, I hope to deepen that commitment – continuing to give so that others gain.

So, this International Women’s Day, let’s embrace ‘Give To Gain’ as a guiding principle all year round for how we lead, work, and support one another each and every day.
