13 April 2021

This one-day course will help you to recognise and respond to the difficulties that your friend or family member living with dementia can experience with eating, drinking or swallowing.

We know that it can be very worrying when the person you are caring for experiences changes to their eating and drinking habits or preferences. Coughing or choking episodes, weight loss, recognising food and using cutlery can also become problematic.

By listening to your concerns and exploring what causes stress and anxiety around eating and drinking. We will explain the different causes for eating, drinking or swallowing difficulties and offer strategies for helping you to support the person to eat and drink. Opportunities for discussion and practical activity will be provided to support you to develop confidence in your caring role.

For more information on what will happen on the day and to find out if this course is suitable for your needs, please follow this link.

Please note that our team recommend that you attend all sessions of this one-day course. Every element of the programme has being researched and planned and arriving late or leaving early will affect the benefits of the course for you and other attendees. If you are unable to attend all sessions, our team will work with you to find an alternative date that works better for you.

As a charity we do not make a profit. It costs us £125 per person to deliver the course, including lunch. We do not want anyone to be excluded from our services so we are not charging a fee for our courses. Therefore, we invite course participants (or their employers) to donate to the charity on completion of the course, if they are able to. A donation of £5 pays for a coffee break for a carer, £15 pays for a carer’s lunch and £300 pays for an expert course facilitator for a day. All donations, big or small, make such a difference. You can also donate using the donate button at the top right corner of this web page.
