Melanie Blanksby, Interim Chief Executive of Dementia Carers Count said:

“It is bitterly disappointing to see today’s headlines about reductions to much needed social care funding. We would like to know what is happening with the £25m promised by the Government to support unpaid carers? Charities like ourselves are doing what we can to support family carers, most of whom have not chosen to care and who feel “alone”, “trapped” and “broken” by their roles.

Carers desperately need emotional and practical support to enable them to cope better with their caring responsibilities. Funding is essential to enable better access to such support services. We urgently need more details about how and when carers are going to be able to access more support. So many have already reached crisis points. Carers deserve better.”
