Dementia Carers Count Appoints Frances Lawrence as New CEO

Dementia Carers Count (DCC), a national charity which supports family carers looking after someone with dementia, is delighted to announce the appointment of Frances Lawrence as its new CEO.
Frances has worked in the charity sector since 2007 and joins DCC from Young Women’s Trust, with previous roles at The Prince’s Trust, NSPCC and Girlguiding. Frances has personal experience of the challenges of caring for someone with dementia and is passionate about the need to reach and support families living with dementia.
Frances Lawrence, CEO Dementia Carers Count, said: “It is a privilege to be joining DCC. I lost my mum to dementia two years ago so I know how lonely and challenging it can be to care for someone with dementia. I know how hard it is to get support every step of the way and the emotional toll it takes on you as you see your loved one slip away.
“I am determined to make sure that people looking after someone with dementia get the information, recognition and support that they need to be able to cope. DCC has bold ambitions to keep offering and developing easily accessible services that help carers navigate the highs and lows of looking after someone with dementia.
“Often carers don’t think about their own health and well-being. They lack time, they lack energy, and they lack opportunities to focus on their own needs. All too often, this results in carers reaching crisis points, when they feel unable to keep going. When you consider that there are 700,000 families living with dementia across the UK, this means that there are many thousands of people not getting vital practical and emotional support that meets their personal needs as carers.
“We want to increase our impact and reach more carers than ever before. I’ll be working with the team to raise more awareness of our services as well as ensuring that we grow our income so that we can offer more support that is so desperately needed.”
Catherine A’Bear, Chair of Trustees said: “We are delighted that Frances is bringing her expertise, energy and passion to DCC. Frances has a strong track record in income generation and significant experience as a senior manager in the charitable sector. We are confident that she will help us achieve our vision to empower families living with dementia to feel confident, supported and heard. She is highly motivated to raise the profile of DCC and to ensure that more carers benefit from our wide range of services and support. We are lucky to have her as an authentic and determined advocate for all those who are caring for someone with dementia.”
